The Seattle Tattoo Convention

The Goal

The Seattle Tattoo Convention (STC) was in need of a comprehensive visual media packet to promote their fourth annual international convention at the Seattle Center. STC's goals were to highlight tattoo culture, generate positive and extensive pre and post convention coverage, differentiate the event from other international tattoo expos and increase attendance at their three-day convention.

The Strategic Communications Plan

Vandenberg Communications designed and produced a unique and highly visual press outreach packet featuring tattoo artists from around the world, and highlighted the work of several artists through easily accessible high-resolution graphics.  In addition, to better exhibit the connection between tattoo art, culture, design and fashion, Vandenberg developed accompanying media pieces to introduce the convention's diverse tattoo artists and organizers.

The Result

The result was extensive print and visual media coverage, which displayed STC's unique approach in showcasing tattoo culture. Coverage included: The cover of the Arts section in the Seattle Post- Intelligencer equipped with visuals; a major feature and profile of the STC co-founder, Damon Conklin, alongside multiple photos in the Seattle Times; feature stories running on all major television networks in Seattle; multiple feature stories published in national tattoo magazines; a detailed NPR interview with STC personalities informing listeners about "tattoo culture"; as well as numerous other print and radio features. With our efforts, the Seattle Tattoo Convention's attendance increased by several hundred visitors in comparison to its three previous years and reached maximum capacity for the weekend event.
